The Luca Maffucci company, located in Viareggio, is the main producer of potted flowering plants in Italy. The company covers a total area of ​​540,000 mq: 250,000 mq are covered by greenhouses - for protected crops - and 290,000 mq are dedicated to the outdoor fields. The group consists of 7 companies: Palagi, Aurelia, Fontanella, Fosso Guidario, Lecci, Lombardi and Barbantine.

This story begins in 1978, from the entrepreneurial spirit of Luca Maffucci, founder and owner of the entire group, and from his indisputable desire to give life to a highly specialized company where excellent quality can be achieved with large-scale crops. Enrolled at a very young age in the register of direct growers, Luca Maffucci has always tried to improve production processes by using the most modern technologies, and once he has reached an adequate production size, he has equipped the company with a managerial team decidedly oriented towards innovation. The company has grown tremendously in recent years, thanks to the harmony of a motivated and dynamic group of more than 100 collaborators, who share the founder's qualitative vision and who tenaciously work to give life to increasingly guaranteed crops.

The company combines the experience of tradition with the continuous updated techniques and systems to obtain a high quality product and to ensure a fulfilled availability throughout the commercial season. With this business philosophy, since 1997, the structures have been equipped with absolutely avant-garde systems with ebb and flow system greenhouses: this consists of a finely leveled concrete floor, under which there are heating, irrigation and fertilization systems developed according to the most modern technologies. The "ebb/flow" system has many cultivation advantages compared to traditional systems: basal heating greatly reduces the natural condensation of humidity between the leaves and eliminates the risk of mold and rot developing; the plants are more resistant both during cultivation and during transport and storage in sales shops. Furthermore, the greenhouse environment is never humid and in particular the bottom on which the pot rests is always dry, consequently the plant does not accumulate an excess of water and develops healthier and more robust. Weeds never develop on this type of flooring. All this allows you to to never resort to any treatment with herbicides and to reduce the use of fungicides by up to 80%! The uniformity of irrigation and fertilization allows for an unequaled quality standard and has allowed, over time, to develop a customized soil mixture for optimal cultivation needs, in which the presence of natural blond peat is very high. And again, in compliance with the most demanding environmental impact standards, the irrigation system allows the recovery of water not used by the plants which, suitably filtered and purified, is reused for a further irrigation cycle. To allow the maintenance of the best environmental conditions for the development of the plants and to comply with the EU directives in the reduction of energy expenditure, we have taken charge of the installation in our structures of shading and thermally insulating cloths which are used when necessary during the various phases of cultivation.
